Outnumbered, the Holy League dominated the seas over Greece, Christians lost only 15 ships where the Ottoman lost 40,000 troops including their commander. The Ottoman commander was captured and beheaded on the spot. This proved to the world that the Ottomans could be defeated. This was one of the worst defeats ever by the crescent.
