The Hebrew word in Exodus 20:5 is qannāʾ (קַנָּא). It means zealous, passionately protective, or devoted to preserving what rightfully belongs in a covenant relationship.
He was revealing His covenant love.
A righteous king is jealous/zealous for his kingdom.
A faithful husband is jealous/zealous for his marriage.
A loving father is jealous/zealous for the hearts of his children.
Not because they crave control, but because they refuse to surrender what they love to destruction.
As followers of Christ, we should strive for that same kind of holy zeal—not jealousy for what belongs to others, but a passion to guard what God has entrusted to us: our faith, our families, our integrity, and the truth of His Word.
The knight's calling is not to conquer people, but to conquer himself. To stand firm when the world bows to idols. To protect the weak. To speak truth with humility. To remain faithful when compromise is easier.
May we be known not by violence, but by conviction.
Not by pride, but by service.
Not by the sword in our hand, but by the cross we carry.
"You shall have no other gods before Me."
Faith. Honor. Truth.
