An old Christian tradition tells of a Knight Templar who was traveling to join his brethren for an important gathering. Along the road, he found an elderly man lying beneath an olive tree, weak with hunger and too ill to continue his journey.
The Knight looked toward the distant chapel where his brothers were waiting. Then he looked back at the suffering stranger.
Without hesitation, he knelt beside the old man.
He gave him water from his own flask, broke his last loaf of bread into two, wrapped his cloak around the trembling shoulders of the stranger, and remained there through the night, praying that Christ would restore his strength.
By dawn, the old man was able to stand once more.
As the Knight prepared to leave, the grateful traveler asked, "Brother, why would you delay your own journey for someone you have never met?"
The Knight smiled and answered,
"Because every soul I meet bears the image of my Lord. If I pass by those in need, I pass by an opportunity to serve Christ Himself."
The Knight arrived late to the gathering. No one knew where he had been. No praise was given, no title was earned, and no song was sung in his honor.
Yet in Heaven, another story was written.
For a true Knight Templar does not measure success by recognition, but by faithfulness. His greatest weapon is love. His strongest shield is humility. His highest honor is to serve Christ by serving others.
May we never seek glory for ourselves, but strive each day to become living witnesses of the Cross protecting the weak, comforting the sorrowful, defending the innocent, and walking with unwavering faith until our earthly pilgrimage is complete.
