Silence and solitude are spiritual disciplines that create space for us to hear God's voice. Jesus modeled this repeatedly, withdrawing to quiet places to pray despite the constant demands on His time and attention. If the Son of God needed these pauses, how much more do we?
Many of us are uncomfortable with silence. We fill every moment with noise—music, podcasts, social media, television—avoiding the discomfort of being alone with our thoughts. But it's often in these quiet moments that God speaks most clearly, when the distractions fade and we can finally hear the still, small voice that Elijah experienced on the mountain.
Today, try to create at least 10 minutes of intentional silence. Find a place where you won't be interrupted, silence your phone, and simply be present with God. You might focus on a single verse of Scripture, repeat a simple prayer like "Lord Jesus, have mercy on me," or just sit attentively, noticing your breathing and allowing your racing thoughts to settle. Don't expect dramatic revelations; simply practice the art of being fully present. Over time, these moments of stillness become a source of clarity and peace that sustains you even in the midst of life's inevitable chaos.
