America’s government was not established as a national church, but our nation’s history, culture and understanding of liberty were deeply influenced by faith and biblical principles.

Biblical words and imagery can still be found throughout our national buildings. Psalm 16:1 is inscribed in the U.S. Capitol Prayer Room. Moses and the Ten Commandments are represented in the Capitol and inside the U.S. Supreme Court.
These symbols were not placed there by accident. They remind us that faith, moral responsibility and belief in God have played an important role in America’s story.
The First Amendment protects religious freedom while preventing the federal government from establishing an official religion. It does not require Americans to erase God from public life.
We should never be ashamed of America’s Christian heritage. We must preserve it, teach it to future generations and continue praying for our nation.
