I come to you today with a story of Motherhood. As you all know this past Sunday was Mothers day, and I hope all off you Mothers had a Blessed day with family and loved ones. Our Mother's are so special to us all for in so many ways they shape our lives. Growing up in a very large family 8 kids in the House my Mother Ran the house with an Iron Fist we all new who was in charge and we also knew who loved us more than life itself, always there taking care of us yet teaching us self reliance and a work ethic that truly made us all respect the very life that God had blessed us with. However We always knew she was there, when there was a problem, there was Mom the problem solver. My Dad was a busy Man working many jobs to support the Family that he Loved. But Mom ruled the roost. We never thought anything other than she would be there when we needed her.
But my story today is not about me but about my Loving and Most Precious Wife Karen, who lost her Mom on Mothers day when she was just 16 years old. That loss was devastating to Karen for her Moms birthday was just the day before she passed. Karen's Dad was the Chief of Police in the Town where she grew up Madison N.J. and struggled with the Passing of His wife and how to raise two teenage girls who's lives were just shattered. Karen Mom died of Alcoholism which made it even tougher because people can be cruel and hurtful. Karen life would be a struggle from then on and when she was diagnosed with Early onset Parkinson's at 29 years old there was nobody there to pick up the pieces. I met Karen some 10 years after that and i knew she was the love of my life. We have seen each other through many a struggle and i am blessed to have her in my life.
I bring you this story today not to Bring you sadness but to give you a moment to think just how lucky those of us that had our Mothers in our lives are. A Mother is a precious thing that many of us take for granted. My mother lived until she was 92 when Parkinson's took her from us as well. But we had her for all those years and right up until the end she still ruled the roost. I often think of how i never thought of life without her and how difficult it must have been for Karen to have lost that influence at such a crucial time in her life, a time when a young Girl really needs her Mom. So as another Mothers day slides Past let us Give thanks to the Lord for all those Great Mothers who showed us the way through life. Let us never take for granted just how important a Mothers Love can Be. Thank you to those who took a moment to read this post. I hope that it gave you pause to reflect on life and just how Precious it is. For in a moment it can be gone.
Our Templar Journey Teaches us many things, Kindness to others, charity and how to protect the innocent and less fortunate. Our mission is clear. Just as the mission of Our Mothers was clear.... we must make sure we are prepared to care for those who need us.
May God Bless you all and May he Bless all those Mothers out there who gave so much of their lives for us. I wont speak for Karen but i know Her Mother hears her Prayers, and feels her sadness on this day.
