DON’T BREAK THE HEDGE
Scripture:
«“Whoever digs a pit may fall into it; whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.”
— Ecclesiastes 10:8»
There are boundaries in life that God gives us for our protection. Sometimes we see those boundaries as restrictions, but God sees them as safeguards.
A hedge or wall can represent wisdom, obedience, discipline, and spiritual protection. When we deliberately break through the boundaries God has established, we expose ourselves to dangers we were never meant to face.
The enemy often makes the other side of the hedge look attractive. He whispers, “Nothing will happen. You can cross the line just this once.” But compromise rarely announces its consequences beforehand.
A small opening can become a doorway.
That is why we must guard our hearts, our minds, our relationships, our words, and our choices. God’s commands are not designed to rob us of freedom; they teach us how to walk safely in the freedom He has given us.
Don’t break the hedge.
Stay within God’s wisdom. When temptation comes, don’t ask, “How close can I get to the boundary?” Ask, “How can I remain faithful to God?”
There may be things God is asking you to walk away from today—not because He wants to punish you, but because He wants to protect you.
A WORD FOR TODAY
The boundary you are tempted to break may be the protection you will one day thank God for.
Guard the hedge.
Guard your faith.
Guard your testimony.
Guard your heart.
And when you are uncertain, choose obedience over curiosity and wisdom over impulse.
Prayer
Lord, give me wisdom to recognize the boundaries You have placed in my life. Help me not to break through the hedge of Your protection through disobedience, compromise, or foolish choices. Give me strength when temptation comes and courage to walk away from what could harm me. Teach me to value Your wisdom more than temporary pleasure. Keep my heart faithful to You and my feet firmly on Your path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Practical Action
Today, identify one boundary God has been reminding you to respect. Take one concrete step to protect it—walk away from a temptation, change a habit, make a wise decision, or seek accountability.
Don’t break the hedge. Protect what God has entrusted to you.
Quote:
“God’s boundaries are not barriers to your blessing; they are protection for your purpose.”
