1 John 5:4-5 “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
When we feel defeated, we must stay focused on the Cross. For it was at the cross that we gained victory. The Cross is where Christ won the victory over sin and death. It is where we were bought by a price so that we can no longer be slaves to sin, but living victorious as heirs with Christ.
Victory in Christ is the security of our Hope. Even though life will have many difficulties – we no longer have to remain hopeless. Since we now belong to Christ, we can have Hope in Him. Hope that he is working in us, to change us into a reflection of Christ.
We have victory over Satan by the blood of Christ. We have the indwelling Holy Spirit. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we have the ability to say no to the temptations of the devil and to live in freedom.
We have victory over our enemies when we love them and pray for them. This doesn’t mean that our enemies will immediately become our friends – but we can rest assured that God will see the injustice and He will pronounce vengeance upon our enemies, for we are His children.
But we don’t have to live burdened and enslaved emotionally to the torments of our enemies. By loving them as Christ loves them – praying for their soul – we turn them over to God.
We can have victory over sin by saying no to temptation. Christ has set us free on the Cross. We are no longer bound by our sin. We are no longer in bondage to it. We will still make mistakes as we grow – we are not perfect yet. But we can indeed have the victory because Christ is victorious. Let’s continually fight sin, but more importantly, let’s rest in the perfect work of Christ on our behalf.
Since Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead three days later we are promised victory over death. Death is no longer anything that we have to fear. Death is just us passing from one room to another – and enter into the throne room of our Lord, where we will be able to spend eternity with Him.
Repeatedly in the Bible we can see literal illustrations of God giving His people victory in battle. God is ultimately in charge of who wins each battle – and He will allow only that which is for our good and for His glory.
Victory over fear is hard to realize sometimes. But God is Sovereign. He is perfectly in charge of His creation. There is nothing that can come to us and harm us that He does not allow. He is completely in charge.
Praise the Lord for His mercy! Praise the Lord that He has been made victorious over sin and death!
Have a blessed Wednesday
