OPENING
Many believers ask :
“How should we pray❔”
Some follow traditions.
Others repeat memorized prayers.
Some think prayer is mainly asking for earthly things.
But when we study the epistles of the Apostle Paul, we discover something very important.
Paul repeatedly shows what he prayed for and how he prayed for the Body of Christ.
These prayers reveal the spiritual priorities for believers in this present dispensation of grace.
When we examine Paul's prayers, we notice that they focus primarily on spiritual growth, understanding, and strength in Christ, rather than earthly prosperity or material gain.
The prayers of Paul teach us what truly matters for the Body of Christ.

TEACHING POINTS
1. PAUL PRAYED FOR SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING
Ephesians 1:17–18
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him :
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling…”
Paul prayed that believers would understand what God has revealed.
Prayer is not only about asking God to change circumstances.
It is also about growing in the knowledge of what God has already revealed in Christ.
──
2. PAUL PRAYED FOR STRENGTH IN THE INNER MAN
Ephesians 3:16
“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.”
Paul understood that the Christian life requires inner spiritual strength.
Trials, suffering, and opposition come in this world.
But believers are strengthened inwardly as they grow in Christ.
──
3. PAUL PRAYED FOR LOVE TO ABOUND
Philippians 1:9
“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment.”
Paul prayed that love would increase, but not love alone.
He prayed that love would grow in knowledge and judgment, meaning love guided by truth.
──
4. PAUL PRAYED FOR KNOWLEDGE OF GOD'S WILL
Colossians 1:9–10
“We do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding ;
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing.”
Prayer in Paul's epistles is connected with understanding God's will through the scriptures.
As believers grow in knowledge, they are able to walk worthy of the Lord.
──
5. PAUL PRAYED FOR UNITY AMONG BELIEVERS
Romans 15:5–6
“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus :
That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God.”
Paul desired unity among believers so that together they could glorify God.

APPLICATION
When we study the prayers of the Apostle Paul, we see a clear pattern.
Paul consistently prayed for :
• spiritual understanding
• knowledge of God's will
• strength in the inner man
• love abounding in truth
• unity among believers
• hope and peace in believing
These prayers reveal what God desires for the growth of the Body of Christ.
Prayer is not only about asking for things.
It is about growing in the knowledge of Christ and being strengthened to walk according to the truth revealed in the scriptures.
